Dojo Etiquette:

The time-honored tradition known in classical martial arts as "Reishiki" forms the basis of our dojo's philosophy. Understanding and practicing this etiquette will help each participant build a solid foundation in the cultural principles embedded in our art, fostering mutual respect and dignity.

Stances - Tachi (Dachi)

Stances provide the physical foundation for our movements, enabling effective weight transfer during both defensive and offensive situations.

Hand Techniques - Te Waza

Hand techniques are essential for receiving, counter-striking, punching, and applying joint locks or restraints on an opponent.

Kicking Techniques - Keri Waza

Well-executed kicks are vital for striking and defending, ensuring balance and effectiveness in various combat situations.

Ground Techniques - Ne Waza

Ground techniques teach students how to take down an opponent and defend themselves from the ground, incorporating joint manipulation and bone locks.

Throwing Techniques - Nage Waza

Throwing techniques are used to disrupt an opponent’s balance, a concept known as "Kuzushi." These techniques often transition into ground techniques (Ne Waza) for follow-up.

Kata and Bunkai

Students learn traditional kata, which are sequences of movements emphasizing key principles. "Bunkai", the breakdown and analysis of these movements, focuses on timing, breathing, and applying the techniques practically. The practical application of these principles is referred to as "Oyo."

Vital Points - Kyusho Study and Applications

Advanced students explore the strategic use of the body's vital points, particularly focusing on the nervous and circulatory systems, to enhance their effectiveness in self-defense.

Body Shifting Techniques - Tai Sabaki Waza

Body shifting techniques, or "Tai Sabaki," are crucial for evading and countering attacks. This training helps students break an opponent’s balance (Kuzushi) and redirect aggressive energy back at the attacker.
