Katsuya Tamaki (勝也 玉木 - カツヤ タマキ) was born in Osaka, Japan, in 1967. He began training under the direct guidance of his father, Katsumi Tamaki, from an early age. This training began before Shinjin-ryu was formally named, reflecting the traditional reality that the principles and methods of an art often exist before they are given a formal identity.
In 1982, he moved with his parents to England, one year after his father’s arrival in 1981. His training continued through this period and remained rooted in close personal instruction, practical application, and long-term immersion in the family tradition.
Raised within the Shinjin-ryu family line and shaped by both Japanese and Western contexts, Katsuya Tamaki represents a direct continuation of the system as it developed and was transmitted. His senior rank reflects decades of practice and responsibility within Shinjin-ryu.
His grade was formally recognised through evaluation by a panel of senior practitioners, including family and external representation, to support legitimacy, continuity, and proper transmission.
Katsuya Tamaki stands as the natural inheritor of Shinjin-ryu, carrying forward its principles through continuity rather than reinterpretation.
